When you submit a query (type a keyword into the Search box) to a search engine or directory it searches through its index, or database, for the most relevant matches to the keyword rather than searching the Internet.

Searching the Internet would take weeks or months, not fractions of a second. There are many business cross-relationships between the various search services. Some of them are owned or partially owned by other search services, others license search engine software or directory listings from each other. In many cases, submitting your site to one search service will get it indexed for other search services. Although many search services may use the same index or database the results you get will vary greatly because of the methods and rules the search service uses to query the database.

Getting your site indexed is not that difficult. Search engine submission is a process where the site owner or a paid service requests that the search engine crawlers visit a site and index the text on the site. Many people assume that submitting a site to a search engine is all they need to do and the search engines will place them as the one of the first results on whatever words they want.

Many of us receive unsolicited email from businesses offering to submit your website to over X thousand search engines for only X dollars. In reality, you can buy software for your own use for about $50 – $150 and submit your own site as many times as you want. This software has many benefits including the ability to submit your site to tens of thousands of smaller search engines, but unfortunately the most popular search engines have blocked these automated submission tools and they require you to manually submit your site to them, one by one.

search engines have a very simple operating principle, which is based on using a special program called “ robot crawlers” (dragged robot) who regularly visit Web pages throughout the Internet.

The dragged robot collects from each visited Website some data that is stored in the database of the search engine. This process is called indexing Web pages and is repeated every time a page is visited, to highlight any changes and update the database. When the Internet users search for a Website containing a specific word (or a certain phrase), the search engine addresses to its database and makes up an ordered list of those Websites.

In this list is presented every page with: the HTML title (in the form of hyperlinks to the Web page address), an extract from page to prove the presence of the searched words and the Web page address.

Some search engines use specialized algorithms to sort Websites according to their relevance. These algorithms are not infallible, but they often do not fail to rank the pages in such a way that those which contain the best information are on top of the list.

Major consolidations have happened in the search engine industry. Friend has become competitors. Competitors have shaken hands and in SEO Services Delhi consultant of yore repositioned themselves as portals. The whole industry as it stands now has narrowed down to a few players who provide the basic search function. Rest of the people has started to package those results in their own format.

To give an analogy this is also how the news industry operates. Most of the newsletters & chronicles are fed breaking news stories by wire services. These are then presented by the specific news papers in their formats. This of course is supplemented by reputed dailies by their own correspondents in the field. The SEO Services Delhi consultant’s counterpart is having the own or borrowed directory results mixed as a part of their final results. The search results sharing goes hand in hand with the advertising revenue sharing. Hence it serves as a mutually beneficial scenario for all. The basic feeders find more audience hence can command greater ad revenue. In SEO Services Delhi with e-fuzion the receptors can get ad revenue without actually incurring the costs of running a search service. Overture has been the most outstanding player in the paid listing category. It has the largest network for distributing its paid inclusion results to other companies.

Everyone and anyone who has ever used an internet search engine knows the value and frustration of the searches and search engine optimization, it doesn’t matter if you are someone trying to use a search engine to identify a specific piece of information or if you are a business person trying to break into the global ecommerce market, we all have some sort of complaint about internet searches.

These days when we need information we no longer go to the local library and throw ourselves at the reference librarian. Now when we need information we boot up our personal computers, connect to the internet, and access our favorite search engine and type in the keywords that should access the necessary information. Thrilled, we scan the long list of potential hits, it looks like its going to be an easy research project. Cheerfully, you click on the link for the first website, and then the second, and then the third. Each website is filled with gobbely gook that bears little resemblance to the information you are looking for. Taking a deep breath you return to the search engine’s homepage and reenter your keywords, jumbling the order of the words, thinking that maybe this time you’ll get a hit. Once again you get nothing but a bunch of gobbely gook. You run search after search after search. You try a variety of search engines, other then a few advertisements you get very little information about what you’re looking for.

Resisting the urge to throw your computer out the window, you grab your car keys and wallet and head to the local library.

You have just been a victim of spamdexing.

Spamdexing is a problem that drives everyone from the college student trying to write a research paper, to the businessperson trying to make a go of their business related website, to the powers that be at the search engines insane.

Spamdexing is the use of various methods that manipulate the relevancy or prominence of resources indexed by a search engine, usually in a manner that is inconsistent with the indexing systems guidelines. The word spamdexing was first coined by Eric Convey in an article he wrote for The Boston Herald in 1996. The article was called “Porn sneaks way back on Web.”

Spamdexers are webmasters that take complete advantage of search engines, completely ignoring respected forms of search engine optimization. Spamdexers use a variety of techniques to make sure their websites are in the listed in the fertile first two pages of search results, many times the pages bear little if any resemblance to the original search.

Search engines powers that be understand the frustration spamdexers bring out in people struggling to run legitimate internet searchers. They know that spamdexing can add hours of time and mind-numbing frustration to what should be a simple internet search. Its cliché but they really do feel your pain and are trying to eliminate the problem. On January 25, 2007 Google took an active role in trying to stop the spamdexers on its search engine by going after websites that specialized in Google bombing. Several of the major search engines have rewritten their web crawler’s algorithms to make keyword stuffing difficult, rejecting any websites that simply made lists of keywords.

Most search engines would like internet users to report websites that they suspect of spamdexing.
